HARVEST
The 2020 vintage was a complicated year. It was characterized by a historic drought and heat that unexpectedly ended with heavy rain during the harvest. A year of absence and of excesses. However, the vineyards we work with are wise and generous and capable of adapting to the conditions and providing us with finesse and elegance in the wines.
A warm winter, spring that brought early sprouting, windy days in flowering, generating irregular fruit set and then continued, without a drop of rain from May 4th until harvest.
A year of hard and precise work in the vineyard and a very demanding harvest.
ORIGIN
Region: Sierra de Gredos – Municipality: Burgohondo (Ávila).
THE VINEYARDS
The vineyards are located at more than 1,050 meters of altitude, we always work with vineyards that are over 70 years old.
These vineyards are on granitic sand soils, and depending on the plots, there is more or less depth of soil and more or less silt. There are even plots in which the parent rock emerges on the surface of said soil. To make this wine, plots from this municipality are mixed, so that the most distant vineyards are no more than 3 km away. This set of plots presents variability in the orientations, depths and composition of the soil, altitude, climate, etc. For this reason Arpegio is our village wine.
The vineyards used to make this wine are worked naturally.
ELABORATION
The grapes harvested by hand come from 12 micro plots (1.8 hectares). After the grapes have cooled, the grapes from the different plots are vatted in tanks made of different materials (stainless steel, concrete and open French oak barrels). 80% of the grapes are vatted without destemming, and random pump-overs carried out 4-5 times/week.
The temperature is controlled to prevent the temperature from exceeding 25 – 26ºC.
Fermentation is carried out with the autochthonous yeast flora.
AGING
The aging of this wine lasted 14 months, and containers made of 3 different materials participated in the aging of this wine: a 1,700-liter egg-shaped concrete tank, 1,000-liter stoneware vessels, and 500-liter French oak barrels.
ANALYSIS
Its alcoholic degree is 14.42% Vol. And its total acidity is 6.23 g/l.
