HARVEST
the 2020 harvest year was characterized by a cold winter and the for this area usual amount of precipitation. In early spring we had moderate temperatures and some rainy days. This ensured that the plant germinated very well. Also, in the dry and warm summer the plant developed well, but with a lower production. The summer was dry and warm, the plant regulated itself well, but based on bringing a shorter production.
In mid-August, night temperatures began to drop below 18ºC, which allowed for a great maturity to be completed while maintaining a profile of freshness and elegance, as well as the roundness and typical persistence of the vintage.
ORIGIN
Region: Cuenca – Ribera del Júcar – Municipality: Pozoamargo.
THE VINEYARDS
The vineyards are located very close to each other, at an altitude of 750 meters, all the vineyards are over 70 years old.
The proximity of the Júcar river influences the fact that the compositions of soils are very changeable from one vineyard to another
All the soils in our vineyards are characterized by having pebbles on the surface, and in the vineyards used for this wine, under the pebbles there is a 3-meter-deep layer made up of sand and gravel, mixed with clay, under the which, the calcareous rock appears. This make them vineyards with very deep and fresh soils. These soils are the most representative of the area, so with the vineyards with this soil we make this VILLAGE WINE (ARMONÍA).
We work all these vineyards practicing natural viticulture. Due to the amount of boulder in these vineyards, managing weeds is very easy, that’s why these vineyards are practically worked without tillage.
This wine of this 2020 vintage comes from 5 smaller plots.
ELABORATION
The grapes for this wine were harvested manually between September 11th and 13th. After the grapes have cooled, the clusters and berries are selected on the selection table and the grapes are vatted by gravity in tanks made of different materials (stainless steel and concrete).
30% of the grape is vatted with whole bunches. During the elaboration, the macerations are very soft, making a gentle stomping of the grapes the first days and when the top layer begins to fall off, it gets wet periodically. Fermentation is carried out with the autochthonous yeast flora.
AGING
The aging of this wine lasted 14 months, making use of containers of 2 different materials, stoneware vessels and 500-liter French oak barrels.
